I have been a Rotarian now for 9 Years, and thankfully though slowly, I’ve learned more each year.  I’ve learned to work alongside other people, no matter what their profession. I’ve learned  to make commitments and carry out tasks.  I’ve learned to work in a committee to plan a project. And I’ve learned to lead a service committee.  And now I am honored to be the 2009-2010 president of the Rotary Club of Kapa`a, which is made up of a fine group of professional ladies and gentlemen.  I plan to lead by example, working one hundred-plus percent by “Doing da Rotary Thing”.

“Doing da Rotary Thing” is going to weekly meetings networking and learning about other things. (Club Service)

“Doing da Rotary Thing” is supporting and learning about other vocations, and doing the “green thing”.  (Vocational Service)

“Doing da Rotary Thing” is responding to the needs of the community and helping those less fortunate. (Community Service)

“Doing da Rotary Thing” is supporting and encouraging the young people of Kaua`i. (Youth Service)

“Doing da Rotary Thing” is working for peace in the world. (International Service)

I love “Doing da Rotary Thing”.

I have been fortunate to travel the last several years.  I make it a point to visit Rotary Clubs when I am on vacation.  It is great to able to walk into a room full of strangers but have lots in common, greeted as always in the nicest fashion.  To those Rotarian’s traveling visiting Kauai, please feel free to join our meetings and events. I promise we will make them fun and interesting.  In addition, I invite everyone to participate in our annual fundraiser, The Taste of Hawaii, held every year on the first Sunday of June.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Rotary Club of Kapa`a. We will be having a special celebration event sometime in late winter or early spring. We hope you can join us.

What we do today will impact the future of our community, our nation, and the world. The Rotary Club of Kapa`a has embraced green businesses and individuals that make it part of their lives to conserve.  I invite you to join us in this endeavor, because the future of Rotary is in our hands.

Aloha and Mahalo Always,

Rodney Pascua
